You can add text inside a basic shape, as a caption below art and pictures, or on a link.
When you switch from Diagram View to Outline View, any symbol text you have in Diagram View is transferred over as topics and subtopics. Link text is unique to Diagram View.
Cut, Copy and Paste options are available via a Quick Control 
or the Edit menu.
